BBOF proudly highlights events from veteran organizationswhose missions align with and support our own.
Team RWB: This is our spring camping adventure, to be held at Beaver Dam State Park, about three hours north of Las Vegas. Please note that I had to put a Las Vegas address into the app or it would not show up when our members looked for events. If you have not been to Beaver Dam State Park, you are in for a real treat! Highlights of this weekend include:-Pristine group campground! Grounds are usually in great shape!-Crystal clear streams with rainbow trout. We will have plenty of fishing gear for those who would like to try fishing, and any veterans with VA disability ratings will be covered by our fishing license. -Plenty of mountains and trees. It's a refreshing change from our desert environment.-Great little hike. The waterfall hike offers scenic views with several stream crossings. It's a short hike good for dogs and small kids.-Dark Sky Country! We have chosen this weekend because there will be very little moonlight, and it's far from civilization meaning that there should be little or no light pollution. As long as there is no cloud cover, it should be great for star gazing.
We have reserved a group site. You're welcome to camp with us at the group site or camp near us with your own site. The state of Nevada doesn't take reservations during the month of April for individual camp sites because, so few people visit this park at this time of year.
The best way to get there is to just Google "Beaver Dam State Park, NV" and map to it. Or, you can use GPS coordinates: 37.513672, -114.080308. Keep in mind that there is no cell phone service out there (which is why I always carry a satellite-enabled communication device when I'm in the backcountry). Basically, you take the I-15 to Hwy 93 and go north for an hour, then turn right at the ET Fresh Jerky Store and travel another hour to Caliente. A couple miles after Caliente you'll see the turn off for Beaver Dam State Park, and plan to spend up 45-60 minutes to travel 39 miles to the Group Camp Site, located in Campground B. The road is paved for a little while, but most of it is a dirt road. You do not need a 4x4 or high-clearance vehicle to get there, any reasonably road worthy vehicle should suffice. I highly recommend you gas up your vehicle in Caliente. If you have specific questions about the campground, it is managed through the visitor center at Cathedral Gorge State Park ((775) 728-4460)
There are pit toilets, but no electricity. So make sure you bring plenty of light sources (lanterns, headlights, flashlights, etc.). Whatever you pack in, you'll have to pack out. At the time of this writing (12/12/2025) we are still in the early planning stages of this event, so stay tuned for more details.
